by Ian Jackson

Teddy Benson is a upcoming artist coming out of San Diego, CA. He has a distinctive voice and delivery, and a artist you should get familiar with. His consistency in making great music speaks for itself. Meet Teddy Benson!!!

ABM: What is your Rap name? Tell us the story behind your hip-hop name?

Teddy Benson: My name is Teddy Benson, I picked it, because it’s a strong name. The kind of name that people could be proud to say, and happy to hear. The Kind of name that belongs to a person you can introduce to your mother, your grandmother, the Pope, Gandhi even. And name to command strength, one that is as powerful as the person that bears it.

ABM: Has anything happened in your life that led to the decision of becoming a musician?

Teddy Benson: Watching people cry on television, cry for Michael Jackson, 50000 people with lighters in the air screaming for Michael Jackson. I knew I had to feel that before I died. I knew I could accomplish that.

ABM: How did you get your start in the hip hop scene?

Teddy Benson: I used to kick the Beats on the lunch table and high school for all the rap cyphers until I finally got enough balls to come out the closet as a rapper. Before that I was hooked on def poetry jam. Writing poetry like that is where I got the rhythm

ABM: Whats your favorite part of creating?

Teddy Benson: The original creation of the energy or something you know is just purely you. The first time you hear it to the speakers, and everything is perfect.

ABM: Where are you from, and what was it like growing up there?

Teddy Benson: I from Southeast San Diego beautiful California growing up in my city it’s like a Melting Pot everything Asians Mexicans blacks Puerto Ricans Chinese Italians Somalian Samoans Haitians Ethiopians is all here this is like a transplant City people just come here experience the great weather and they never leave. So growing up like that you get a lot of different mentalities and sometimes it’s easier than others to deal with as a kid I got into a lot of shit. But I guess who doesn’t San Diego’s just like every other City it’s just sunny all the time.

ABM: What do you typically rap about?

Teddy Benson: I’m a Libra, so typically my mind is always digesting what my eyes see on a daily basis. to things that I go through, and the questions that I ask myself. the personal ones and ones that hurt. the things that I ask myself about other people’s lives, so that I can better understand and help somebody else, maybe understand the position that they’re in life. I make mood music I guess, you know life music. the kind of stuff that you could play for any kind of situation going on in your life.

ABM: What are your last full length releases people can go check out right now?

Teddy Benson: The last releases was the 1904 project, which I’m really proud of. This the one that I like every song on it. I was happy even though I’m never happy with the stuff after I drop it, is just  the meticulousness part in me. And right before that we dropped the king flow featuring Crooked I. That project I really wanted to do for the hardcore hiphopheads. because they’re not going to be fans unless they can respect the fact that you have lyrics and substantial qualities in your music.

ABM: What are you currently working on?

Teddy Benson: Well I’m working on Legend talk right now. I got most of it finished, we’re just going over it, and filling in the blanks. trying to make sure that we don’t skip any Vibes or any tempos that will make this project be the best that it can be. Most of the music that I make lacks the real party turn up atmosphere, and this project I wanted to show everybody that I can do that a long will still keep it serious and conscious at the same time.

ABM: Whats your last visual release people can check out, tell us about it.

Teddy Benson: My last visual release with the Tippin video featuring speaker box. In California were born with that hustle mentality I really believe it and my mind is always racing on the next dollar I Need a Dollar every minute like I’m running out of time.

ABM: What is your ultimate goal at the end of your career?

Teddy Benson: Well I guess that’s the split answer because my ultimate goal it’s to make sure that I can do whatever my family wants to do at whatever time they want to do it and live the life the few people even dreamed of. But my go through music is the touch as many hearts and lives as possible to give people the energy that they need to make it through the hard times in life and give people a reason to celebrate after they have achieved their goals if they work so hard to see.

ABM: How can people reach you?

Teddy Benson: You can type in Teddy Benson anywhere and I’m going to pop up first. I put in my work to be able to pop up on any search engine that you possibly can find. And find me first. But all my handles are @ IamTeddyBenson Snapchat Twitter Instagram Facebook Soundcloud.
