Krissy Marchante

ABM: What is your brand name/ rap name? Tell us the story behind it?

Krissy M: My stage name is Krissy Marchante. Marchante is actually my mom’s maiden name.

ABM: Tell us what happened in your life that led to the decision of you becoming a musician?

Krissy M:  The actual moment I knew I wanted to be a DJ, I was 14 I went to this concert at Shoreline Amphitheater, and saw my favorite DJ, DJ AM. I saw how he controlled the crowd, that’s when I knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.

ABM: How did you get started in the music business

Krissy M:  We lost my older brother and my mom was very protective of me. So, my friend asked my mom for permission to buy me a DJ mixer; a ‘Numark Stealth Control’. All I did was practice deejaying. Eventually my mom started driving me to high school parties, Then I started deejaying in the clubs.

ABM: Where are you from? What was it like growing up there?

Krissy M:  I’m originally from Oahu, Hawaii. We moved to the Bay when I was 4. I grew up in Albany, which is a small city in between Richmond and Berkeley. I lived in the UC village. I was always around Filipino, Samoans, Mexican, Asian, & African Americans.

ABM: What do you typically make music about?

Krissy M:  In the beginning, I was focusing on finding my sound & becoming actually good at it. I make music based off strong emotions. I always have to let it come to me I don’t feel like I can begin a piece of music on the spot. I need to wait until I’m inspired.

ABM: What are you currently working on?

Krissy M: Last week I put out my first mixtape, POON TYPHOON! I produced all the songs, and had a gang of females from the Bay Area hop scene on it like Qing Qi she is up and coming! It was hella stressful but worth it. I’m currently working on a bunch of house-soulection remixes of my favorite artist. CUZ I’M HYPHY LIKE THAT!

ABM: What is your ultimate goal at the end of your career?

Krissy M:  The ultimate goal for me is be discovered, well paid, respected, to perform all over the globe, and to provide for the people who have truly supported me and lifted me up at my lowest points!

ABM: What is your biggest inspiration for what you do?

Krissy M:  I would say my mom is one of my biggest inspirations hands down, but what pushes me the most is my drive and determination.

ABM: Tell us something about you most people don’t know.

Krissy M:  I used to want to be a pro skater, until I was 14. LOL!
