ABM: What is your stage name?

JFifer: J Fifer or Jon Fifer.

ABM: Where are you from, and what was it like growing up there?

JFifer: I’m from Oakland, CA. Growing up in Oakland was cool as fuck man , I grew up around the 80s in East Oakland and it was always shit I could get into, I was never really bored. I was into basketball and football earlier on in my life although I was always around rappers and dancers. I always had people in my corner growing up who wanted to see me do good so growing up where I was I had a lot of positive influences and a lot of my friends are influential people in the Bay Area now.

ABM: What are your last full length releases people can go check out right now?

JonFifer: I just recently dropped a single called “Heard of Me” featuring AkaFrank, which is a straight slapper. I also got another club banger called “Drip” that been getting some radio play and been getting play by a lot of DJ’s in the Bay Area right now. I’d say thats one of my hottest songs out right now, people been really digging that. I got another single called “On to the Next” also, and you can find these on my iTunes.

ABM: What are you currently working on?

JFifer: Right now I just dropped my debut EP called “Star Power”.

ABM: What’s your last visual release people can check out, tell us about it.

JFifer: Right now I actually don’t have any visuals out at the moment, but we workin on getting one done for my “Drip” record cause my fans been telling me that I need one, so I gotta give the people what they want.

ABM: Is there any artists you would like to work with in the future?

JFifer: Yeah man, I got a lot, I could go on for hours, but for right now: Kendrick Lamar, YG, Too Short, Philthy Rich, Iamsu, E-40, Schoolboy Q, G-Eazy, SOBxRBE, Big Sean, Curren$y, Pharrell Williams, Wiz khalifa, A$AP Rocky. The list honestly goes on and on, those just some names that was on my mind at the time.

ABM: Any business ventures you wanna tell the public about?

JFifer: Yeah right now I’m trying to get some ideas together to make a clothing line , I really would like to get some merchandise for the people. Working on getting a vlog put up on my YouTube so my fans can really get a look at my day to day life, and see how I’m living.

ABM: Where can people find you online?

JFifer: You can find my music on all platforms, just type in “Jon Fifer”. As far as social media my instagram is @louisvuittonjon, twitter: Jon fifer, Facebook: Jonathan Fifer, YouTube: Jon Fifer Music

ABM: Any last words?

JFifer:I just wanna let everyone know I’m about to make a huge impact in this rap shit man, ya’ll definitely gonna be hearing more from me in the future. I think I add something to this rap game most have not seen before. Also please check out my new single “Heard of Me” featuring AKAFrank on iTunes!

All Bay Music: What is your Rap name? Tell us the story behind your hip-hop name?

Edword Evwrit: Edword Evwrit. It’s based on my grandad’s name which is Edward Everitt. I took his name because he was an artist and someone I never got to meet. I’ve only ever heard the glory stories about him and what he did from my father and his siblings. That’s how I wanna be talked about and remembered from people, but more importantly from my father. I changed the spelling from Edward Everitt to edWORD evWRIT to play on the words. Word writ is short for “words written”, because I take pride in what I write.

All Bay Music: Has anything happened in your life that led to the decision of becoming a Musician?

Edword Evwrit: Mostly just being around my brothers and cousins. They started rapping when I was really young, under the name LunaClick and I was always around them. By the time I got to my junior year in high school I kind of just jumped in with them.

All Bay Music: How did you get your start in the hip hop scene?

Edword Evwrit: It was just buy selling CD’s around school. Then, eventually I was a part of LunaClick and we put out an album and solo albums in 2011. That was pretty much the last anyones really heard from any of us. Life just kinda got in the way I guess.

All Bay Music: Where are you from and what was it like growing up there?

Edword Evwrit: I was born in San Francisco, but basically raised in Pittsburg, CA. The city gets a bad rap and I can see why but I honestly love it out here. It’s my home. I’m pretty non-confrontational so I feel like I had it pretty good most of my years here. This is where I met my best friends and my wife.

All Bay Music: What do you typically rap about?

Edword Evwrit: I was big on story telling but lately it’s mostly my views and opinions on anything really. I’m really family oriented, so thats a big portion of my inspiration and subject matter. I’m also in my own head a lot, so thats a common theme too. It’s been more personal lately too, cuz nobody can tell me about myself more than I can tell them about me.

All Bay Music: What’s your last full length release that people can go check out right now?

Edword Evwrit: Under my old name D to Tha, The Album’s called “Attention to D.Tales” it’s on iTunes, Spotify, BandCamp or where ever people want to listen.

All Bay Music: What are you currently working on?

Edword Evwrit: I just finished “These Pants are Uncomfortable”, and am pushing that right now. I am already in the process of starting my new album, but I doubt that’ll be out anytime soon.

All Bay Music: Whats your last visual release people can check out?

Edword Evwrit: It was a LunaClick video for the song “Ridin’ high”. It was a laid back summertime song we shot at a park in Concord. Check it out online on YouTube.

All Bay Music: What is your ultimate goal at the end of your career?

Edword Evwrit: I want to make a living doing creative things. Whether that be rapping, mixing, producing, filming, whatever. I don’t think creatives should be confined to mundane tasks at a 9-5 everyday when they could be using that 8 hours a day bringing something new to the world.

All Bay Music: Who is the most impactful artist in your life who has inspired you and why?

Edword Evwrit: Easily, Kendrick Lamar. He’s the artist I always wanted to be and the rapper that I believed the world was missing. Ever since he released “Overly Dedicated” he’s been my favorite artist, and made me feel like he filled a void in the music world. His growth is amazing to witness and his unwillingness to succumb to main stream requisites is something to appreciate.

ABM: How can people reach you?

Edword Evwrit: Facebook, IG, Twitter, just search: Edword Evwrit

More importantly go to my website, edwordevwrit.com that’s updated more than anything honestly.

Mistah F.A.B. shares with Rolling Stone how the track came together: “I’ve known the whole TDE crew for years now, since around 2009. Jay Rock would bring his guys up to Oakland and I’d show him around The Town. We’d mob up and down the West Coast doing industry events, award shows, and core DJ retreats together. I reached out to Kendrick about a year ago like, ‘Yo Cousin, I need you on this record.’ He said it was no problem and got it to me the next day.

Kendrick is hella talented. I just love that the world is embracing him the way that he is. He was always a star, it just took a long time for the world to see it. Crooked I and have worked together for years too. He might be one of the top lyricists ever out the West Coast. It’s dope to see those two together, one from Dr Dre’s camp and one from Eminem’s camp. Those guys have never done a record together. To put that under one umbrella was a great feat. Kobe Honeycutt, he did the “Kush” record for Dre, he’s a Grammy winning singer-songwriter, also super talented. To me, he’s like the ghetto Michael Jackson.”\

NWA was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame last night in New York City. They’re only the fifth hip hop act to ever receive the accolade, putting them in the company of Gand Master Flash, Run DMC and Public Enemy. This was a huge honor, not just for hip hop, but for gangster rap specifically.

Hip hop heavyweight and student of NWA Kendrick Lamar, was on hand to pay homage to the legends; expressing how much they impacted him as a young kid from Compton. Notable for stirring up controversy, Ice Cube addressed the haters who don’t see a place for hip hop in the hall of fame, while giving his induction speech. “Are we rock n roll?” “You goddamn right we rock n roll. Rock n roll is not an instrument. It’s not even a style of music. Rock n roll is a spirit thats been going on since the blues, jazz, bebop, soul, rock n roll and yes, hip hop.”

Earlier this year Kiss frontman Gene Simmons had some choice words in a Rolling Stone interview regarding the hip hop culture.”I’m looking forward to the death of rap,” he states. “I’m looking forward to music coming back to lyrics and melody instead of just talking.” MC Ren also fired back during the ceremony, addressing Gene Simmons directly. “I want to say to Mr. Gene Simmons that hip hop is here forever.”

Something that will be noticeably missing from the televised award show, airing April 3oth, is an epic NWA performance. Ice Cube told the New York Times that he didn’t feel the group received the support they needed in order to put on a hall of fame worthy performance. Putting fan disappointment to the side, NWA is an iconic staple in the history of hip hop and gangster rap music. They paved the way for the gritty untamed sound Bay Area music is so known for. Salute to the godfathers of gangsta for their remarkable achievement! @_CourtneyCherry

Forbes’ drops a new list of the current most successful and wealthy artists titled, “Hip Hop Cash Princes,” specifically ranks the rising under 30 stars who have already managed to start a solid bankroll for themselves. G-Eazy turns up at number 4 on the list! There is something to be said about being able to monetize your talent and these rappers without a doubt are cashing out. Check out the list, it is surprising to see who’s actually making that money!

1) Boi-1da

2) Dej Loaf

3) Fetty Wap

4) G-Eazy

5) Joey Bada$$

6) Little Dicky

7) Little Simz

8) Logic

9) Metro Boomin

10) Young Dolph

Charlamagne Tha God, Atlantic Records chief Craig Kallman, hip hop pioneer Lovebug Starski and three Forbes staffers all picked these artists for the list. Probably most surprising on the list are Little Simz and Young Dolph. Simz likely was placed on the list based on the strength of her Kendrick Lamar cosign, while Young Dolph distinguished himself by being one of the only independent musicians to have multiple Top 20 records from 2014-2016.

Drake unleashed his new track “Summer Sixteen” on OVO Sound Radio today (January 30). On the single for his forthcoming album Views From the 6, Drake seemingly takes aim at Meek Mill and Tory Lanez.Drake addresses the continued beef with Meek Mill on wax with the track.

“I let the diss record drop you were standing right below me, nigga,” Drizzy raps. “We must have played it a hundred times, you was going to bed / Why would I put on a vest I expect you to aim for the head? / I coulda killed you the first time / You don’t have to try to say it louder nigga / We could hear you the first time / It’s nothing personal I would have done it to anyone.”

Meek Mill and Drake have been enthralled in a rap battle royale ever since Summer of last year when Meek Milly claimed that Drake used Quentin Miller as a ghostwriter for his “R.I.C.O.” verse off the MMG’s rapper’s sophomore album, Dreams Worth More Than Money.

Drake answered to Meek’s allegations on wax, releasing “Charged Up” and the Grammy-nominated cut “Back to Back.”

Meanwhile, the Philly rapper took nearly a week to respond to the diss tracks on “Wanna Know.”

Meek Mill has since released two other diss tracks aimed at the OVO rapper.

Elsewhere on “Summer Sixteen,” Drake also compares himself to Jay Z, playfully teases Kanye West about the size of their pools, and addresses President Barack Obama’s preference of Kendrick Lamar over Drake in a rap battle.

“Tell Obama that my verses is just like the whips that he in / The bullet proof,” spits Drizzy.

He also apparently takes shots at fellow Toronto native Tory Lanez.

“All you boys in the new Toronto want to be me a little,” Drake raps referring to fellow Toronto artist Tory Lanez. “All your ex’s know I like my O’s with a V in the middle / You would love it if I went away or didn’t say nothing else / How am I keeping it real by keeping this shit to myself? / You was never gang, gang, gang, gang, you was never one of us / Had us fooled for a minute now we done all grown up / But I’m better off anyway, y’all never gon’ finish drake / Say you seeing ‘bout it when you see me man y’all never home anyway / Thought of things that you shoulda said, said things that you shouldn’t say / We even gave you the whole money play and ya’ll still broke to this day.”

Drake is set to release his forthcoming album Views From The 6 sometime in April to commemorate Toronto area code 416.
