Born of Filipino and Hawaiian heritage, Mahalo established himself during the 1990s as a DJ, engineer, and music professional who understood both the performance and technical sides of a record.

During the day, he worked in technology. In the mid-1990s, his career included early hardware testing for Sony Electronics, including work involving Sony’s Magic Link PIC-1000 and early VAIO systems. At night, he spent time at Felstar Studios, owned by Felton Pilate of the legendary funk and R&B group Con Funk Shun.

That studio placed Mahalo close to a generation of music connected to the Bay Area, MC Hammer, and the wider West Coast scene. He was working within that community when Tupac Shakur died in September 1996, a loss that affected artists, producers, engineers, and everyone involved in the culture.

Two years later, Mahalo entered another important chapter of his career at Ruthless Records. Founded by Eazy-E and Jerry Heller, the label had already changed American hip-hop through N.W.A and its uncompromising approach to music.

While working there as an engineer, Mahalo helped engineer “A Player’s Prayer” by NX, also known as Nation Unknown. The credit became part of a career built through direct experience inside studios, record labels, and artist development spaces.

His music résumé continued to grow through work connected to MC Hammer, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, E-40, and George Clinton. He also operated Hella Choke Records, managed artists through North View Records, and performed for decades as DJ Mahalo, formerly known as DJ Mackhal.

At the same time, Mahalo maintained a substantial career in information technology, working with companies including Cisco, Juniper Networks, Palo Alto Networks, and CDW. His understanding of systems, equipment, and technology became another extension of the technical mindset he developed through sound engineering.

Today, Mahalo is back in California’s East Bay. Alongside his continuing involvement in music and technology, he is building Trials and Tributes, a residential recovery nonprofit focused on community empowerment.

The studios, equipment, and industry may have changed, but Mahalo’s approach remains grounded in experience, discipline, and service. He did more than watch West Coast music history unfold!

Something immediately recognized with the intro track “Que Sera Sera”, is her knack of being a well versed artist. She displays her strengths in singing, rapping, and harmonizing. She truly is an all around musician in terms of being a vocalist.

In “You’re Special”, the song grabs you, and the storyline is a great love story. In the single Nena Kapone highlights her love for her partner, and lists the ways she wants to love her partner beyond physical. The song is positive and powerful.

“My Body” has a smooth island vibe, and her collaboration with Sheddie Bankz proves calibrated. The song is another smooth love anthem, and Nena Kapone shows she is far from just a rapper.

The body of work displayed by Nena Kapone with latest drop is practical and authentic, far from a message of stretched truths and fake bling, but of calculation, love and substance.

Today I’m thankful to say we live in an era where neighborhoods and certain blocks can unify for a greater good like community and prosperity. With a co-sign cameo from Oakland’s Mistah Fab and some candy drippin’ classics in front a Nipsey mural the viewer gets a lot of classic content out of co-director’s Stone and Norberto Garcia (@norbertogarcianava). Thanks to trailblazers like Nipsey Hu$$le, Tupac, and the ambassador (@e40) himself, this hook really had me in the right vibe for a December quarantine. J Stone got more on the way after this collab so stay ready.

Cookie: Cookie because growing up I loved and was highly addicted to chocolate chip cookies , friends and family called me the Cookie Monster
And as I grew up everyone just began calling me cookie . So when I started modeling I loved it since it’s short and formal .

ABM: Where were you born and raised?

Cookie: Born and raised in Redwood City , California with my grandparents where I slept on one queen size bed with 5 other family members for half my life

ABM: What is a cultural heritage or ethnicity?

Cookie: Latina . Half Mexican half Salvadorian

ABM: Who inspired you to take modeling seriously as a career?

Cookie: My grandmother she made me feel like I could do anything and everything ! Become anyone I wanted to be and accomplish every goal and reach every dream !

ABM: What part of modeling interests you and why?

Cookie: Body positivity, the fact that everyone has an opportunity to feel and be beautiful modeling is for all shapes and sizes and I’m all for that . I hated myself everything about me to the point that I wore baggy clothes up until I was 18 just to hide my body and pounded my face with makeup to hide any imperfections and after modeling I started to love myself. I started showing off my body and taking pictures and videos without any makeup and I still felt amazingly beautiful.

ABM: What is your favorite genre of music?

Cookie: I love hip hop and R&B. Being raised in the Bay Area that’s always the movement for the younger generation but I was also raised in low income gang infested areas where suicide homicide rape and children who went to bed hungry lived. I was system impacted and given a subpar education so when I listen to these artist I can feel exactly where there coming from and the fact that they were able to achieve something greater always motivated me to want and do better .

ABM: Any favorite musicians you like to listen to?

Cookie: My favorite rapper is Tupac his music helped me cope with my anxiety stress and depression that I struggled with growing up ! & I love to start my mornings with Michael Jackson because his music uplifts my soul and puts me in a great mood for the rest of the day .

ABM: What kind of men do you like?

Cookie: I love a real gentlemen ! A man that takes charge but isn’t controlling. Cash app me 1,000 and tell me to be ready by 8pm kind of man haha no but seriously I love an entrepreneur who wants to help others and spread kindness just as much as he wants to be successful and wealthy ! like Gary VEE he’s my favorite.

ABM: What are you favorite things to do with your spare time?

Cookie: On my spare time I love to volunteer at local organizations and educate friends family and people within my neighborhood about how to rise above poverty.

ABM: What is your favorite foods you like to enjoy?

Cookie: I am not a picky eater I will eat everything and anything . I love all food ! Especially Japanese food . So if anyone wants to take me to Japan I’m ready to go like yesterday !

ABM: Are there any places you would like to visit?

Cookie: Not one specific place but I would love to travel all over the world one day only for the people and the food.

ABM: What’s your best moment in modeling so far?

Cookie: My best moments would be modeling with cars just because cars fascinate me and If you gave me a choice between a Chanel bag or rims I would take some Forgiatos for the coupe. Cars make me look good and I make them look good so it’s a win win.

ABM: Any last words or shout outs you will like to give?

Cookie: I want to thank all of my supporters and I want to thank myself as well. And I want everyone to know that their beautiful no matter their size or shape please spread kindness to each other as much as you can . You never know what someone is going through so please just be patient with your fellow humans and most importantly be kind. Focus on and stay true to yourself. Everyone’s going to judge you and have an opinion don’t take advice from people that aren’t where you want to be in life and don’t listen to the hate don’t give in to the negativity. Don’t agree don’t go with the flow speak up stand up for what you believe in. Find happiness don’t wake up each day hating life be you be real and be happy!

ABM: What is your Hip Hop name? Tell us the story behind your hip-hop name?

STP Los. Story behind the name, my name was really to highlight my team and where we are from. STP stands for the STRIP which is Peachtree Corners Circle a street full of Neighborhoods. Ie, our hood. Where I’m from representing your hood is very important, on top of the fact that when I was growing up your reputation meant everything. So if you are from a reputable “team” or “crew” you wear the name as a badge of honor. Flying the flag STP means everything to me and my team.

ABM: What happened in your life that led to the decision of you becoming a musician?

STP Los: Honestly I’ve always been a music head, but within the past few years I actually started to take my craft serious and now I’ve become the voice for my team and my side of town. My uncles used to have a band so I was exposed to all types of music growing up. From Tupac to groups like Journey, music was always apart of my life. So it was seemingly faith that the dudes I hung around were only interested in a few things, getting money (hustling), sports, and music. Growing up like I did, in the mindset that I was in, I literally only idolized athletes and dope boys. Not musicians, but the streets were changing dope boys were now becoming artist (rappers) and were getting a chance to tell their story. My patnas were rapping, hustling, when I received a small scholarship to school for playing football. We would freestyle all the time but I was hell on the field so I pursued that love initially. Once football was snatched from me (a story for another time), I returned to what I knew best, hustling. With the hustling came music cause thats what we would do to past time, freestyle. After a while it really became my vehicle to express the way I saw things.

ABM: Where are you from, and what was it like growing up there?

STP Los: Born in Atlanta (real ATLien), but I represent the Nawfside of town. The Nawf is like the wild wild west. Growing up on this side of town is unique because it is actually a very diverse side of Georgia that you don’t get anywhere else in the STATE. The Nawf as we call it, is actually a pretty confusing side of town. It was once known as the side of town where all the white people lived, which I thought myself until I actually moved there. Once you get on the Nawf you actually see what it really is, which is people coming from all circumstances looking for better but finding the same thing that they were running from. For example they move to the Nawf to get away but Gentrification has pushed everyone out of the city to the Nawf so your essentially getting the same environment that you’re running from, ironically.

ABM: How long ago did you start rapping, and what are some of the changes you have went through as an artist coming up?

STP Los: I actually started rapping in as early as 2010, but as of 2017 I started to actually take my solo career serious. All of the changes Ive gone through and are still going through have all been Mental. Ive had to change the way I approach music in all aspects. I had to start to take music as a business.

ABM: What are your last full length releases people can go check out right now?

STP Los: Big Nawf, Big Nawf 2, Single: Peachtree Carter Shit!

ABM: What are you currently working on?

STP Los: With the release of Peachtree Corners Shit ft. YRN Murk  that has been my main focus, besides that the focus is constant visuals! The record PTC Shit featuring Murk is literally both of us going in about how we feel and about our side of town. Really more about Peachtree Corners!

ABM: What’s your last visual release people can check out, tell us about it.

STP Los: “Isha Wit Da Asha” a track that I am actually featured on, but one that has taken the streets by storm. Currently sitting at over 25K organic YouTube views, this track that highlights my peer BlackBoi Prince Akeem and features myself has really taken on a life of its own. The Video highlights a typical Nawf Atlanta day. My very last visual released was “Malicious Intent” which is over 23K YouTube views is literally a movie. Won’t go into too much detail just check that one out for yourself!

ABM: Where have you toured at in your career?

STP Los: I did a tour with Quality Control DJ’s where I really got to sit back and watch how a tour is supposed to be correctly ran..(an eye opening experience)

ABM: Any business ventures you wanna tell the public about?

STP Los: Big Nawf Apparel available everywhere at www.bignawf.com. Premium Hair Boutique a staple of Virgin Hair in the Atlanta area premiumhairboutique.com. And also CBD Trap, a new vibrant business venture that offers answers to all of your CBD questions. www.cbdtrap.com.

ABM: What is your ultimate goal at the end of your career?

STP Los: Is generational wealth and to also be the catalyst to my community in helping my peers find different ways to be successful. The goal also which should be in all of us is to show the people around us how important it is for us to build one another up. To show everyone from my hood that there are plenty ways to get a bag, more than just show them to actually be the catalyst to help catapult them into a position to take advantage of opportunities.

ABM: How can people reach you?

STP Los: Contact me at all social media outlets using @stp_los or by email stplostho@gmail.com

ABM: Any last words?

BigMacBZ is a new artist upcoming, who is seemingly beginning to develop a sound similar to Tupac Shakur, no doubt who the artist is a fond fan of.

In the track, you can tell in the way his delivery and adlibs there is some inspiration. In hearing some of his tracks, he has a certain knack to switch his styles depending on his mood and the vibe of the track. The video was shot by Doonworth209, and edited by BigMacBZ.
