ABM: What’s your background in modeling? When and why did you get started?

RianB: My background in Modeling comes from my father being a photog. Shooting with him at a young age just for fun cultivated me and played as a pilot for the love I have for the industry as an adult.

ABM: How would you describe your style? Consider anything and everything from color to historical eras and more.

RianB: if I could describe my style in one word it would be endless. I’m not bounded by trends and what’s “in” I dress based on how I’m feeling that day. I love neutrals wether I’m feeling boyish, street-urban or rockstar sexy I’m always moderately tempting limits and everything is slick flowing from one piece to the next. Two major historical eras that are holistic with my style are 1. The 1920s Beverly Hills/ Old Hollywood and 2. The early 70s to late 80s Rock style.

ABM: What models and designers inspire you and why?

RianB: I’m inspired most by Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Doutzen, and Candace Swanepoel. These particular four Inspire me because the power they exude from behind a lense! Commanding a room purely off self awareness. Designers that changed my life are Oliver Rousteing ( Creative Director for Balmain), Riccardo Tisci (Creative Director for Givenchy), Kanye West, Azzedine Alaia (Creative Director for Alaia) .. Etc the list is endless. Basically any designer than can make me feel dominating.

ABM: What makes bay area fashion unique?

RianB: Bay Area fashion is unique based off the fact that people from different areas identify with our fashion on site. They know the Bay. As a Bay Area native I ellude my lifestyle. Pretending doesn’t exit here. What you see is what you get… And some.

ABM: What do you get out of modeling?

RianB: When I’m modeling I feel like I have a platform to express whatever theme I’m going for. For a long time Modeling was a Mirror into a person I could never realistically be fearing others wouldn’t accept me. The more I’ve channeled those characters Modeling just illuminated that fact that those characters are me.

ABM: What advice do you have for other aspiring models?

RianB: My advice to an aspiring Model is be patient with your journey. People will try to create or appropriate your vision but you have to know self in this industry. Never stop shooting and staying humble no matter where your career may takes you.

ABM: What are some things you dislike/hate about the fashion industry?

RianB: Things I dislike most about the industry would have to be the fact that women of colored are underrated due to genetic traits and what is considered to be beauty. I feel like beauty doesn’t start and end with blonde hair blue eyes and a thin skinny body type. I want to be the rise and up spiral for women of color especially bc I have exaggerated features. I’m going to change the normal “beauty” standards.

ABM: How has modeling changed other aspects of your life?

RianB: Modeling has changed my life as far as me being me and accepting that. I feel like I can see myself clearly, literally. I accept my flaws and my perfections, that’s powerful.

ABM: What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progress in this field?

Ryan: My goal is to be an editorial Model. I see my self progressing in this Field by shooting with photogs in as many different places in this world that I physically can. I love high fashion and the overall goal is to gain experience under as many designers as i possibly can and then start my own clothing line. I want to inspire my culture to step out of the “Urban” limbo that we are stuck in.
