Since bringing the Bay Area music scene a new website, magazine, and overall facelift to our brand, as of lately, we have been putting a lot of focus on getting the public involved.
So, the All Bay Music staff sat around the round table scheming on a new theme for Issue 7. After the white board was full of some dynamic ideas, it became apparent that we needed to do an issue for the talented producers of the Bay Area.
Generally we feel like the producers seem to never get the lime light they deserve, and we felt like it is important to shed some light on the foundation for the highly proclaimed Bay Area sound. While we knew we needed to shed light on some of the legends, we also wanted to give exposure to all the up and coming producers of the Bay Area, so we put together the #Top20BayProducers contest.
The contest consisted of 40 nominees and would result in 20 winners. The contest was held on our voting poll on allbaymusic.com, again making it anyones race, and the contest itself ran for a little over 3 weeks.
These producers did not take this contest lightly, the #top20bayproducers hashtag count lit up as they pushed to get their supporters and artists to vote for them. As we promoted each one individually the lyricists got to check out each producer and see what their sound was all about.
As the contest went on, it became apparent which producers were grinding for the top spot. The winner of the contest was the only woman producer in the group, who goes by J Dizzle. She ended up winning some apparel from RAW Clothing, a gift certificate to Alameda's new dessert hotspot "Gelati", and a collaborative opportunity with Mozzy Records producer, and this issues front cover, June Onna Beat.
We also committed to giving the top 20 producers a section in this issue to show homage for their hustle! Shout out to all the nominees who pushed this contest.
