AK47

Pittsburg · talks Philthy Rich and French Montana

AK47 has been a stand out producer, producing many songs for the artists on the Mob Figaz and Livewire imprints. Read up on how he just started landing releases with Coke Boys/French Montana.

ABM: How did you get your name, AK-47?

AK-47: The letters AK are my initials so I just put the 47 after it so I just was riding with that.

ABM: What part of the Bay are you from?

AK-47: Pittsburg, I've been in the P my whole life you know what I mean.

ABM: Tell us the story about how you first started producing, what was that like?

AK-47: My cousin was going to college for production and I was about 12 at the time. After that he took me in and ever since he started helping me, I fell in love with it. It only took me a couple days before I went and bought a keyboard and the program, you know what I mean.

ABM: What's your setup like when you work on beats, what kind of programs do you use, what brand of equipment, etc?

AK-47: The only thing I use now is Fruityloops! I started off in Reason but now the only thing I use is a mini keyboard, computer, and Fruityloops, thats about it. You don't need too much too make noise you know.

ABM: What would you say your first break was, coming out in the production world?

AK-47: My first break was my first beat I ever sent out to J. Stalin, it ended up being SNITCH FOOD by Lil Blood & Lil Rue. We shot a video to the song too.

ABM: What would you say your follow up single was?

AK-47: I think one of the songs with Philthy Rich, it has a million or 2 also, it blew up too.

ABM: Talk about your upcoming project with French Montana, whats that like?

AK-47: I was working with his managers and producers, so I sent them some beats. At first I only sent 4 beats. He ended up picking the first beat on there and then his manager sent me a text/instagram before they recorded it. The song was finished last year in March, but it just came out this past December. I think its on his album too so, it might be an album placement as well.

ABM: What are some of the artists you're working with now?

AK-47: Im working with everyone including Livewire, Mob Figaz RIP Jack. Me and Philthy rocking, we have a ton of stuff coming out like, "SemCity Money Man 4" is on the way and it's entirely produced by me. I also did SemCity Money Man 1, 2, and 3. Im doing whole projects at this point.

ABM: Have you done any traveling?

AK-47: Yup, Im always on the road. I just started DJ-ing for Philthy Rich, so I've been touring with him as of recently. I also travel for myself and my producing here and there, so I'm always somewhere.
